How to read Smart Meter reading online

I’m here to share how I observed the smart meter reading and the charges applied on the total usage. This article will be writing in English as it might draw concern of the English readers.

Let have a quick look how to check your smart meter reading from your myTNB portal.

  1. Log in to www.mytnb.com.my
  2. Click “View Details” in your dashboard

  3. On your right-hand side, External Portals Integration -> Smart Meter

  4. You should able to see dashboard with 3 main criteria: Electric Costs, Electric Usage, Environmental Impact.
  5. Click “Detail” under Electric Usage

  6. You should see the usage by daily / monthly / yearly, click “More Details” for list of 1.5hr / daily / monthly usage.

Issue Found

  • Smart meter reading usage is different from bill usage
  • Period of cut off is 1 day different from the bill

I was writen an email to TNB regarding the matter and looking for advise how can we calculate the usage charged in bill from the smart meter reading which is different. They lodge complaint report for me and the person in charge come to my place with the reason I made complaint on meter. Though I expect they will explain to me how the calculation works.

Since he is here, I highlight my question to him and telling him that it was assist request email but your team directly lodge compalint report which I have no idea why. He seems surprise that we, consumer can get the smart meter reading. At the end he told me, there will be differ when deliver the reading, there is plus minue 5 unit of tolerance.

Since that’s the explanation, now let’s check the recent month usage and you should able to get ypurs from above method as well. Also, I export the details to csv excel for easier calculation and illustration.
* Remember to match back your bill period, the smart meter monthly period differ from bill period.

Question to ask

  • Since the smart meter reading is clearly recorded in portal, why the usage on bill is different from what we seen?
  • If the smart meter reading in portal is the actual data which not pick up to use, where our bill usage came from?

I know it is only few ringgit extra charge, for someone it seems too calculative. But I would like to highlight again the concern, SAYS, we should be charged based on the smart meter reading, where the bill usage data came from? How reliable TNB to use the smart meter to charge us?

So, please allow me to check with TNB for the issue. I shall update after this to get the more accurate information to share. Stay up to date with me and leave message if you have any issue would like to share with.

 

UPDATE: 29/5/2019
After get assist from the crew of TNB UTC MELAKA, I was told theoritically what writen in the smart meter portal should be the usage. I was advised to lodge report by email with the data. And I'm going to do this.
Here I would like also to promote the great service of the crew, I'm so sorry I forgot to take note his name. This is the second time I met him for billing issue, he did a very good job in explaining and share his knowledge. A friendly, humble, patience, and kind person. He deserved for higher appreciation in his works.

 

UPDATE: 24/6/2019
Technicians attended for the issue. However, they are not able to answer regarding the issue of smart meter reading online is not tally with what the bill usage. Therefore, I was asked to noted down on a form and they will follow up the report. By the way, 3 of them are friendly and kind enough in assisting. It was a great service experience.
